100 years ago the Coal Exchange was the commercial hub, around which Cardiff new-found wealth as the centre of the worlds coal trade revolved.

Now a versatile,diverse venue for dances, major gigs, sport events, socials corporate functions and weddings. Our clients vary from Cool House Dance to the Welsh Assembly Government via an impressive artistes list featuring some of the biggest names in music.

The unique ambience and ultimate versatility of the Coal Exchange cannot be exaggerated. With its support facilities such as a suite of dressing rooms, large foyer and side room, fully licensed bar and full Public Entertainment License it is an ideal choice for any function.

Film/TV

Production companies are regularly attracted to the venue with dramas such as "Mortimer's Law" and "Jack of Hearts" being shot in and around the Hall. "The Exchange Programme" with Huw Edwards was devised for and has run several successful series from the hall. The Coal Exchange has also hosted auditions for Model Behaviour and Big Brother.

Live concerts for T.V. and Radio, Trailers for S4C, Period dramas and speciality programmes including Miss Wales 2005 have all taken advantage of The Coal Exchanges' special ambience, flexibility and ease of access. There is good power provision and adequate parking for O.B. vehicles.

All this, coupled with a user-friendly staffing policy have made the Coal Exchange an increasingly popular location for film, television and radio majors and independents.

Music

World famous as a superb music venue, The Coal Exchange is a favourite for promoters and bands across all genres. Noted especially for its diversity, the Coal Exchange has hosted some very special musical events.

Classical concerts such as The Welsh National Opera, The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh College of Music and Drama, Vale of Glamorgan Festival are frequent visitors. Live recordings for radio and television are a regular occurance - a testament to the excellent acoustics.
"Legendary" Rock and Pop gigs have become an almost regular occurrence at The Coal Exchange with massive performances from Robert Cray, The Manic Street Preachers, Van Morrison, P.J. Harvey, Kelly Jones, Lost Prophets, Hundred Reason, Nils Lofgren, Feeder and Wheatus, Patti Smith, Suede, Alabama Three, Biffy Clyro ... etc.

On the Dance front all the major local brands have visited the Coal Exchange including Time Flies (who took the name from "Tempus Fugit" legend inscribed below our magnificent clock) Bulletproof (who in conjunction with BBC Radio 1Xtra brought The Valve Sound System to Wales for the first time) Hustler, L'America and our residents in 2005 ; The Award Winning Coolhouse .

Corporate Events

The grand splendour of The Coal Exchange makes it a perfect venue for all your Corporate Functions, Christmas Dinner Parties, Presentations or AGMs.

We can create a package to your instructions, including food, wine, late bar licence, entertainment, screens/projection, P.A., audio-visuals, specialist lighting and even theming, creating a truly unique event tailored to suit your specific requirements. Alternatively we can offer the hall on a dry-hire basis.

Our client list includes  L'Oreal, Eversheds, The B.B.C., The Welsh Assembly Government, Macmillan Cancer Relief, Black Horse Finance, 118-118 The  Number & First Plus, H.S.B, Marks & Spencer, The Automobile Association and IKEA, to name but a few.

Conferences

The Coal Exchange is ideal for any AGM, Presentation or small conference. The Main Hall can seat a maximum of 500 theatre- style and 400 cabaret- style depending on the set-up and the required stage. The Coal Exchange has one breakout room and a large foyer.

There is an excellent choice of hotels nearby, ranging from five-star luxury to economy-class. Access from the M4 is easy and well-signed. An excellent location in the heart of Cardiff Bay, a major visitor destination, gives access to a wide-range of attractions, restaSurants and bars

Weddings/Parties

The Coal Exchange Hall is ideal for Wedding Receptions and Wedding Night Parties, the unique ambience of the hall enhancing your experience.

We would be delighted to put a package together, including food, wine, drinks reception, entertainment, flowers, staffing, staging plus offer ideas on special lighting and aspects of theming, to help make yours a really special day, and take some of the pressure out of organising your event.

The location is exceptional, with easy access from the M4, ample parking, and conveniently situated hotels, ranging from the five-star to economy-class.

We can accommodate parties from 120 - 500 (depending on the type of setting) set in groups of ten or less on 5' round banqueting tables.

Our caterers can deal with all your requirements from buffet to banquet. We can also quote for dry hire of hall with staffing, should you wish to organise other aspects of the day yourself.

Sport

The Coal Exchange is a much sought after venue for benefit and testimonial dinners, We are proud to have hosted recent benefit dinners for Clive Rowlands and David Watkins, and the anniversary dinner for the Welsh Mid-Districts Rugby Union.

The hall is also in high demand for Boxing and Martial Arts dinner -based events. Amateur Boxing dinner- events are most popular with up to 400 persons seated cabaret- style around a 16ft ring.

The Coal Exchange is an awesome arena for semi-pro Fight Nights and Martial Arts spectaculars. With up to 700 people standing, the atmosphere is electric.

The Coal Exchange is an ideal venue for Sporting award ceremonies, presentations, special events and press conferences.
