WelcomeThe Coal Exchange, as of the 1st October 2007, is now closed for major refurbishment in line with plans to restore it to its former glory, and is due to re-open in 2009. The Coal Exchange Team are now working with several other venues in South Wales and continue placing and managing events accordingly. Hannah has taken on The End in Cathays and can cater for private parties of up to 150 people, as well as hosting a wide range of live music and DJ nights. The majority of the Coal Exchange staff have indeed moved with her, so for Coal Ex regulars there will always be a familiar face behind the bar at The End. Thanks again for your support and custom over the years, and your continuing interest. We look forward to working with you again in the future. Mike, Hannah, Rob and The Team Please re-direct all enquiries and/or future bookings to hannah@coalexchange.co.uk or admin@coalexchange.co.uk or call Hannah on 07971212535 or Mike on 07971212540 A Brief HistoryOne of the most remarkable transformations in Cardiff Bay has been that of The Coal Exchange in Mount Stuart Square, from commercial hub to arts and entertainment centre. Its imposing facade speaks of the days when Cardiff was growing fast to become the greatest coal-exporting port in the world - its wealth built on the "black gold" dug from the earth by the miners of the Rhondda and the neighbouring valleys. "The Coal Exchange is a family-led business. The wide experience and professionalism of the staff lies behind a refreshingly friendly and informal approach, launched from a platform of youthful enthusiasm and a genuine desire to please." There will be an inevitable closure of the venue from the end of 2007 through 2008. We will however continue to take bookings beyond this point and look forward to a long future in a rejuvenated Coal Exchange. |
